The person could be a vet. But people use veteran status in the same way they use God, as an argument from authority. If someone told me I had to choose vet or not vet, and they didn’t like me saying “either”, then I would probably choose vet. But there’s plenty of experience to leave open the possibility that it’s not a vet, especially if you narrow it down to people who use their veteran status to harass others.
