Cannot stress enough how much ALL of you NEED to go and make sure all of the payable-on-death / transfer-on-death beneficiary listings at every single one of your financial institutions is correct and up to date. Don’t assume you did it right when you initially set it up, laws have changed in the last ten years that have substantial impact on exactly how your beneficiaries should be arranged and because of the ERISA law these forms override EVERYTHING you put in your LW&T.

My Dad and I discovered in the last week he had two serious instances of assets being misallocated that would have enormously fucked up the estate plan he last updated eight years ago.
