Palin’s mental illness is all over TV. People all over the world get to see this spectacle. In a way, it’s the mother of all reality shows: how does the Republican Party deal with a person who should never have been selected in 2008 as their Vice Presidential candidate?

I’m not commenting as a partisan. I was a registered Republican for 25 years (until 2 years ago) and I’ve never been a registered Democrat. (I was a registered libertarian before I was a Republican, but that was a long time ago.) We only need to look at John Edwards to see that the Democrats can make really bad choices in their selection of Vice Presidential candidates. Still, I am convinced that Sarah Palin is UNIQUE in modern times: someone who is obviously mentally ill, and I say “obviously” because her illness is broadcast publicly, over and over; and this person is still taken seriously as a political force. This cannot be good for the country. Fox News should really stop doublin’ down on Sarah Palin; she’s not going to get better anytime soon.
