“Thou shalt not murder” is not clear at all; it depends on what is defined as murder and I believe under Jewish law the victim has to be born.

There is a metric fuquetonne of Christian apologetics on why “kill” was changed to “murder” to justify some killings (like state executions or warfare).

The claim is based on the King James Version “mistranslating” the word from Exodus 20:13. I am not a Hebrew speaker or scholar (plus I don’t give a crap about Bible claims except how people try to impose them on me), so I can’t say if the KJV mistranslated the word or not.

But it does put to rest the lie that the Bible is the “timeless, unchanging, inspired Word of God (tm).”
