Generally you have to actively seek employment and prove youโre doing it, or unemployment is cut off.
When I left the Navy after my first enlistment (and you could still apply for unemployment before Ronald Reagan cut that off, redefining military service as โjobโ), I had to turn in a signed card to the unemployment office in Florida every two weeks to prove I was seeking work.
And in some places, you canโt be choosy. In Minnesota, if you are on unemployment, and a place makes you an offer, you have to take it. (If you get multiple offers, you are free to take any one of them.) You have to apply every week for your unemployment benefit, and they ask if you have done any employment-related activities and if you have declined any offers of employment.
