Pardon my ignorance, but why did that become such a focus? It was there, and there was the “Christ-killer” stuff already floating about. Or did they just sort of adopt it from the Roman Catholic Church intact as it was? And the RCC later sort of shied away from it officially post-Inquisition?

I don’t know why it became such a focus. I’m confident in assuming Luther inherited it from his former Catholic upbringing.

That said, he made it worse, arguing for things like seizing Jewish property, execution of Jews for being Jewish, &c.
