Lincoln was not tremendously popular in the South amongst a significant portion of the population, as you might imagine. My maternal grandmother certainly expressed her dislike on occasion.

Understood. I didn’t exactly grow up around that but heard about it from time to time when I was much younger. Can’t say I ever heard him compared to Hitler though — that’s a first.
