I have a friend that breeds them. Small world. A rescue might be a bit hard to find - she gets serious bucks for her puppies.

Makes for a good story for them, though. Pure-bred dogs are next to impossible to find at rescue centers, I agree. We can get beagles out in our area at the rescue center - they are hunting dogs and sometimes people abandon them when they move. I love beagles and beagle mixes as well as Shepherds.
