Do you think he needed to say anything at all about abortion and being able to forgive if nothing has or is changing?

If he didn’t , then why did he?

I understand your’s and other’s position on Catholics and birth control and abortion. I agree. It is one of the many reasons I am not a practicing Catholic even after years of being steeped in it.

All I am saying is it is a big thing for the Pope to even come out and make the statement. To me that indicates he may well be putting a little crack in some long held thinking. If he is not, there was no reason to make the statement.
