I’m still not seeing much hope. Republicans will take a hit in the polls after this and I don’t think it’s even going to phase them. There’s no hope of negotiations and they’re going to try to burn down the house every chance they get. There’s nothing Obama can do.

At this point, no, there’s really not. He gave up any chance he had of regaining the initiative when he put accept a deal, no matter how odious it was, over defaulting. The hostage takers won, and now know they can simply take another hostage when the times comes to get what they want again.
