I would personally have no issue with someone giving those kids a dog. Nothing wrong with that. It’s this whole “rescue dog” thing that gets me. Of course you should consider a rescue dog. We have two rescue poodles in our home. But a rescue Portuguese Water Dog? That’s just false piety to my ears.

My hairy friend is a rescue. There are rescue groups for breeds. For example Greyhound rescue, what happens to racing dogs after they stop is disgusting. I also have heard of a Bichon rescue group. Dogs end up needing homes, even dogs with papers. Personally I like that my shedding machine (a rare breed the Belgian Shedder) has no papers. In fact I expect it to get citizenship and the vote in a bill now working its way through Congress.
