I think the polls at this point come down to one thing:

IT’S THE ECONOMY - STUPID.

Obama got a bounce from OBL’s death, but the economy is an overarching issue and with people seeing a moribund real estate market, and Wall Street is currently mired in a multiweek loss, people are focused less on Afghanistan, Pakistan, the WOT, or Iraq and more on their pocketbook.

Obama’s got to do something to motivate the economy, but that’s far easier said than done with the GOP moving to block any further stimulus on grounds that the last stimulus failed (and some like Krugman claim that it failed because it was of insufficient size and duration). No easy fixes are on the horizon, and the real estate markets in many parts of the country still need to correct to reflect more accurate pricing due to inventory and foreclosures pressuring prices even lower.

Palin’s stupidity shows no signs of stopping, and while her gaffes keep her in the media spotlight, it doesn’t help when she can’t formulate any policy options that would improve the economy either. Empty platitudes on her part. Eh…
