Btw, Tea Party upstart Ted Cruz has won the Republican Senate primary run-off in Texas. He defeated Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, a Perry crony who was the first choice of the party establishment. Dewhurst is a garden variety Texas corporate fatcat whose sometimes kooky assertions can be safely dismissed as pandering to the masses.

Cruz, though, is a true believer. Among other things, he thinks shariah law is a major threat and there is a Soros backed conspiracy to shut down America’s golf courses. He naturally buys into most of the now-routine wingnut claims about various UN conspiracies, all aimed at wiping out American sovereignty and getting rid of guns and Bibles. To put the seal on Cruz’s nutcake credentials, GOP prophet and shaman David Barton jumped the Perry fence and backed Cruz in this race.
Cruz will almost certainly win the general against a weak and underfunded Democrat, former state representative Paul Sadler.
