This is how Philadelphians know they have a newscaster from outside the greater Philadelphia area. Ask them to pronounce “Olney.”
i remember riding the metro north through westchester with a conductor who clearly didn’t grow up there. he missed the proper pronunciation for:
new rochelle - should be “neurashell”, as if it was some kind of nerve disease
port chester - one word, “porchester”
mamaroneck - should be “mamahhra-nack”, with the characteristic new york “ahh” vowel, as in “ahhhhh youah mudder weaahhs ahhmy boots”
