Interesting post by Ezra Klein about Charles Murray, Sam Harris, and the fact that Murray’s ideas aren’t so much ‘forbidden scholarship’ as they are a well-worn argument against racial equality going back 4 centuries.

But what really strikes me about Murray and his work is not just that it’s racist, and not just that Murray doesn’t realize that it’s racist, but just that it’s not very good work.

Murray is hopeless, he’s spent his entire career in the pocket of right-wing orgs, arguing that people aren’t worth public investments. He will never be anything different. I still hold out some hope for Harris. He has a couple of gigantic blind spots on Islam and progressive activism, but he still seems capable of learning.
