From what I’ve seen this is absolutely correct, and I think I’m missing something. Racism is not dependent on wealth or lack thereof. In fact, it probably correlates higher with wealth. But in economically dire times, it’s not hard to fan the flames of racial grievance among the marginalized whites, particularly the elderly who have been nursing these feelings for a long time.

I think I’m missing the argument. You and Charles aren’t arguing that there’s no economic component, right?
