re: #154 Killgore Trout
I think Alex Jones is precisely a huge part of the problem. The return of the Birch Society, Glenn Beck and Ron Paul means that the right doesn’t care much about Israel anymore.
I respectfully disagree. IMHO:
1. There certainly is a tremendous dissatisfaction with not just the left and Democratic party but also the Republican party and their big spending, pro-amnesty views. Simplistically speaking, that is the larger influence on the tea party movement and their backlash, not an embrace of the far right.
2. The center and center/right is solidly pro-Israel.
3. The far right is given a disproportionate amount of attention to their numbers.
4. It is a mistake to conflate a majority of those who are dissatisfied with the direction of our country - both during Bush’s big spending days and now particularly under Obama - with the far right.
5. Conservatives threw the likes of Buchanan out. WF Buckley types are far more representative of those on the right than freakazoids like Alex Jones.
