A lack of direct comment from His Holiness carries little significance. And as pointed out in the linked article, the influence of the Kennedy family in American Roman Catholicism has waned over the years.

In the end, Ted Kennedy, will go out the same way he came in and in the eyes of God, he is simply a man. Like all of us, Ted Kennedy will account for the ledger representing his accomplishments and failures.

I’m quite sure though, the Pope, and many of the faithful, will remember Ted Kennedy in their prayers.
