If, as all the economic gurus claimed, contagion spread throughout the general banking sector, that would trigger severe stress on banks which weren’t considered exposed to the collapses of Signature and SVB. A bank run on stable banks would collapse them as well, and bank runs can be triggered by nothing more than rumours the bank is not solvent.
