Because either or a combination:
1. Patio lights attract bugs, so it is the dinner bell.
2. Predators (owls, snakes, and such)won’t come up on a patio
3. The patio has an echo effect. Frog and toads croak to attract a mate and any echo extends their “hotness” to female frogs or toads.
