You are right, Israel is far from a theocracy, and a comparison with Saudi Arabia is off the mark, but there are a lot of Orthodox folks there who would like to see it become a theocracy. It is in the US interest to keep that from happening.

Ok, but there are theocracies and there are theocracies. For example, the Amish are quite amiable and pleasant people. The Orthodox Jews are also wonderful people and I can assure you, the real authority is held by the women. They have some old fashioned cultural traits by a California norms, but they have a very health society.
