He’s dumb enough to think we could have won. I always ask guys like that to define what they mean by ‘win’, which is tough enough for them to do. Then ask how they expected to do so.

I was there in ‘71 and ‘72. There was no way that we could have won in any conventional sense. Our opposition was smart, tough, and dedicated. Many of its officers and noncoms had fought against the Japanese and, later, the French. As a combat veteran of that particular war I am nauseated by the keyboard kommandos who insist that we could somehow have won.
