And I’m not saying that lefty professors can’t be assholes or that they don’t have biases but a lot of what I see is a conservative kid who comes from a very sheltered background not liking to hear hard truths about history.

People supporting Bernie are exactly the same way. Ideologues are on all sides of the political spectrum. They are equally ignorant about history and economics.
