Somewhat off topic, having the USS Enterprise being constructed in Iowa, of all places, really bothered me when I saw the Star Trek reboot. A ship that size would be better built in orbit, especially given ST canon that the Enterprise was not designed for planetary landings.

I’m doubtful the USA will be the ones going to Mars, though. The current administration is fervently anti-science. More likely, it will be the ESA or the Chinese getting there first.
