All you would have done is give Trump a new vein of insult to mine. It wouldn’t have changed the interview one bit. Trump and his minions feed off of these insults. As long as he has fresh fodder he keeps his schtick going. When he has to go over the same fields again and again, his supporters get bored. Besides, picking a fight over the necklace doesn’t just benefit Trump, it benefits the entire right wing.
Many people think that Trump is the problem with the Republican Party. That would suggest that things would be normal once Trump is out of the way. Nothing is farther than the truth. I think the GOP establishment loves what Trump is doing because it gives cover to their own extremism.
