Neither of my brothers who served in the Vietnam and in the Desert Storm conflicts/wars wore flag pins, but it doesn’t mean they weren’t loyal Americans. I sincerely don’t “get” the right-wing fixation on politicians wearing American flag pins because to me, it isn’t a measure of one’s loyalty to the U.S. It’s simply a false symbol of loyalty and patriotism imposed by some onto others. I oftentimes wonder how many who take to social media to scream about a pol not wearing a flag pin would be willing to actually defend this country. Some instinct tells me that many of them wouldn’t be willing to do it, but they get a huge kick out of imposing, or trying to impose, their standards on others.
