Sites like Politifact have gotten some pretty big things wrong, but on balance they’re pretty good. At the very least they give sources and links to original material about specific issues so you can check it yourself.

It’s not surprising to see the party that’s opposed to evolution and climate science trying to keep their base as dumbed down as possible.

That was my thought as well. Even if you disagree with Politifact, you can review their work and decide for yourself where they went wrong. When your candidate’s own campaign declares openly that it doesn’t care if its lying, just that it’s ads are having the desired effect, then fact-checking becomes like holy water to a vampire.
