I believe this is true, that they see it that way. I’m not sure why they - especially the women - are okay with it. I don’t know whether it’s that they’ve never experienced it themselves, or can’t see it through the eyes of the woman being assaulted. Empathy failure?

They think that by attending these parties the victims got what they deserved; they believe that a woman who is too intoxicated to give consent has actually given consent. They are totally contemptuous of other women for finding themselves in situations where they can be assaulted. They pass on to their children this same set of beliefs: Rape is the woman’s fault if she attends an unsupervised party with young men. Men cannot control themselves; so it’s not their fault if they attack someone who has willingly shown up at a party, especially one where alcohol is being served.
