I would have sought jail time as well. Fines could easily be paid off with a gofundme or other such effort - so that the monetary pain would be avoided. Jail is not so easily avoided.

Guess they were trying to be magnanimous. They know that they’re likely to succeed.

Still, because of how fundraising will likely result in Davis not paying anything out of pocket, jail would be the proper outcome here.

I would assume it would be a daily fine that would continue as long as she refuses to do her job. If set high enough (I would like to see $10k per day), the fund raising may not be able to keep up with the fines after a couple of weeks, then Davis would be facing financial ruin.
