The feeling of a tie of any sort around my neck is uncomfortable and frightening.

Do you normally button your shirts all the way up? Properly done a tie is no tighter than your top button.

I used to get that feeling with turtle necks. Never could figure out why, till I had my neck measured. 17 1/2”. Standard L and XL shirts won’t come close to buttoning up on me. But, a 17 1/2” neck buttons fine, doesn’t constrict.
