re: #288 Cannadian Club Akbar

Poor bastard worked 22 straight days. Some of the comments asked if that was legal. Betchya a dollar he was salary.

Ayep, aka legal slavery. Once you’ve gotten good enough at all the jobs in the place that you can sub on short notice, they slap a “manager” tap on your nametag, put your name on the short list for “emergencies” (aka whenever another employee gets fed up and quits), and bully your ass into a cheap-ass salary with no benefits and no real future. If your shop has a high turn-over rate, especially night shifts, then it’s not surprising to work for weeks on end with “emergencies” cropping up every time you’re scheduled for a day off.

And it’s all perfectly legal, because no state that I’m aware of has a law on the books saying how many consecutive days a salaried worker can work before they are mandated time off. Hell, even then, I’m sure that the franchise owners would argue that because they’re “emergencies” and not scheduled work days, they don’t count as consecutive.
