What gets to me is the image of all those people in the plane, watching the pilot trying to break down the cockpit door as the plane plunges toward the ground. Horrifying way to go.

To ease your image, it wasn’t a steep plunge, but a rapid controlled descent at about twice the normal rate. Still not fun.
