THAT IS NOT HOW THE ATTORNEY-CLIENT RELATIONSHIP WORKS

An attorney’s job is to give you advice, particularly with respect to the legality and/or lawfulness of certain actions. The attorney does not make major decisions like that. Clients have the ultimate say on things like settlements and payments. An attorney CANNOT settle a client’s case without the client’s consent. Attorneys make decisions like “we need to file a complaint” or “we should handle this in private mediation or arbitration” or “this is the discovery we need”. They will give advice on what they think the value of a case is, but if a client wants to accept less or demand more… the attorney has to abide by that decision.
