If Florida it’s good to have a land line in case of hurricanes. My dad retired from Verizon and he had a discounted rate. After he died I kept the phone. $8/month. And all my friend’s still have land lines.

Virginia, so I know about the necessity of having a landline in case of hurricanes. One of the good things about Verizon FiOS is that they install an 8-hr backup battery for the landline, so that you can still make calls if the power dies. Though, if we ever have a hurricane roll through that’s powerful enough to take down the cell towers, having functioning landlines will be the least of our concerns.
