He started off rather far away and out of site in the trees. Running and hiding was the sensible option. All I can think of was the Syrian T-72 ran out of 125mm ammunition because the rebel IFV was dead to rights before the T-72 laid down smoke and left the road. Hell, at that range, the .50 cal on the tank would have seriously damaged the rebel IFV.
I don’t have any info at all to set the context of the scuffle. Fair chance that the tank commander wasn’t sure the other vehicle was a foe. Hard to tell from the aerial view just how effective a run and hide option would have been and there is no way to tell about the relative experience and training of the crews. Too many unknowns.
