a giant concrete block? yes. the bridges concrete foundation stopped the ship in its tracks. put and even bigger one further out and bam, ship wouldnt have hit. they put those up when they rebuilt the skyway bridge. a bridge exactly like the key bridge.

then at 175k tons -three hundred fifty million pounds- a ship moving 3 mph has approx 154,000,000 Ib*ft/s of momentum. that’s roughly the equivalent of being hit by a bocce ball traveling at 1/6th the speed of light. you got a bollard for that?
