re: #331 Anymouse
The Boy Scouts threw me out when they became aware I was an atheist. I have no love for the Boy Scouts and would like to see their Congressional Charter revoked for religious discrimination (it wonāt happen though).
The Girl Scouts are inclusive of all girls, which is why wingnuts hate them.
I do think there is still great value in the mission and existence of the BSA; while the organization as a whole has made strides in recent years, there is still a lot of work to be done, even in this day and age, to make Scouting even more inclusive and tolerant.
However, while the BSAās definition of āreligionā and āGod/Creatorā is fairly broad these days, including some religions Iād never known about until a decade or two ago, decoupling the religious aspect from the rest of the program (especially from the Scout Oath and Law) will be very difficult, at best; for this, itāll likely take a long time, but I do think itāll eventually happen (or, at least, atheists and agnostics will be allowed to be members), hopefully within my lifetime (and Iām 42 now).
