So far, covid19 is climbing the charts in 2020. It’s now the 4th leading cause of death in the US behind the usual suspects:
From 2017:

Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Covid19 (based on excess mortality: 180,000+
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Covid19: 150,000+
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,633
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173

We’re 3x past the 2017 death toll from influenza. With excess mortality the only things worse are heart disease and cancer. Those are full year figures and covid19 has done that in just about 6 months.
