Is there any indication of a real-world result of the petition? Without a forcing mechanism, even 15 million regrets would just be a chorus of the damned.

The only thing that is certain (if the petition is not voided on a technicality - app. it was created by a Leave supporter) is that it will be debated.

Less formally, it can psychologically help MPs to vote against.
