Any suggestions on for a good cell phone?

I received an iPhone 4S in January 2012 (Christmas present from my father, first thing I said after I opened the present “Thanks Dad! I appreciate you making my phone bill $50 more expensive). I’ve updated the software exactly once, I think it’s 5.1. I’ve always assumed that older computers cannot handle the latest software updates because the computers are not powerful enough to handle the new software. With my iPhone, I’ve been vindicated over and over for keeping my archaic and dated software intact. My iPhone 4S works better than the iPhone 4S’s of everyone I know, they all upgraded their OS. True story.
