The UAW performs an important role, but prior to the bailout it was guilty of some serious reality denial. Since then it’s thinking has improved.

Just like BMW in SC. Those workers don’t make nearly the equivalent of what MI auto workers made.

BMW, Toyota, Saturn—all of them—pick southern states because the wages can be far less than in northern states where unions are well established and southern states are generally antagonistic toward unions.

I’ve worked with union organizers in NC and I can tell you about the dirty tricks and fear used by companies to keep unions out.
