Trigger warning for all—the opening scenes of the Battle of Corinth have a lot in common with the D-Day scenes in Saving Private Ryan. Other than that, the film owes a lot to the techniques used by Ken Burns in Civil War. There was very little that isn’t documented somewhere, allowing for re-imagined dramatic dialogue.

Good to know. I just remember hearing about the premise and it sounded interesting. Plus I like McConaughey.
