The Cold War shaped both the 1967 and 1973 wars, both in arming the participants and in deciding the outcome (limiting what Israel would be able to do). But the Soviets already were deeply involved by 1973, as Soviet pilots flying for the Egyptians were shot down during the War of Attrition in 1970.
