I’ve been wondering about the other clerks in Kimmy’s office. Are they entirely complicit in refusing marriage licenses or are they being threatened with their jobs if they refuse to comply with her claimed conscience? If they did their jobs anyway in compliance with the law could she fire them? If she fired them for actually doing their jobs according to the law, could they refuse to leave?

At least one of the deputy clerks is her son.
All of the clerks are probably terrified of her.
