What I get out of this is many social conservatives like Santorum hate the idea of young people being exposed to new ideas and ways of looking at the world and meeting new people.

This is what happened to me. I went into college as a naive religious fundamentalist. I emerged a profoundly altered moderate. Obviously, the socons are afraid of the fact that a university’s exposure to real life is capable of breaking their brainwashing.
