In fact, Romney’s statement on disaster relief and government spending in general is so stupid it’s just appalling, especially from someone seeking to become President.

Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better.

This kind of extremist confederate talk is poisonous and hearing it from a guy who wants to be head of the federal government is just pathetic. The GOP is running an anti-government platform, and Romney is specifically supporting that here. This was specifically when talking about disaster relief, which is one of the stupidest, stupidest areas to think of ‘privatizing’. People who have just had their houses devastated are not in a good position to be served by the private market. Even leaving aside the idiocy of saying ‘every time’, the fact that he was specifically talking about disaster relief shows either that Romney really holds extremist Tea Party ideology above all practical reality, or he just doesn’t care to even understand the realities of disaster relief.
