I’m wondering if the see-through lace sleeves were a concession to some sort of royal requirement that a bride have sleeves or be covered up somehow. It looks like something that wasn’t part of the original design, but was added for modesty’s sake.

Yeah, I think there is some requirement for sleeves in that church.
