The whole point of the debt ceiling was to keep congressional spending under control. If they just raise the limit every time they hit it then it’s useless. It’s a bit like “outlawing” water boarding by proclamation “We’ll never, ever do it… unless we really need to”

We’re fighting two wars and just started a third. Health care costs are out of control. I’d say we really need to do it, unless of course we decide to stop fighting those wars and actually do something about spiraling health care costs.
