Sure, long-term. But the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch was a debacle for Hitler and the Nazis; Hitler ran away with a dislocated shoulder, Göring was shot in the leg and developed a lifelong morphine addiction, Himmler…hell I don’t know what Himmler did and a bunch of Nazis lay dead in the street.

Only the courts saved Hitler’s useless ass, allowing him enough leisure time to dictate what would become Mein Kampf. Had the judges not been sympathetic to Hitler and instead sentenced him to some real hard time and then promptly deported him back to Austria, the world would be quite a different place.

Not that different. The WR was ripe for a far right fascist rising and if the Nazi’s had failed, then some other group would have risen and possibly with competent leadership. Imagine, if you will, a far right government coming to power in the mid 30’s with Reinhard Heydrich as chancellor?
