For now the MSM is really excited about checking facts but I think that will blow over. Not long ago they were reporting stuff from twitter as news. I think reporters are using the prepackaged fact checks as filler. It’s not really a change in the attitude towards journalism, looks like it might just be another manifestation of lazy reporting.
